For therapists

Clinical supervision, built for growth — not just hours.

Starting out in this field can feel daunting. Supervision with Dr. Lewis goes beyond signing off on requirements: it's a space tailored to your development and your clients' needs — in person in Laurel, Maryland, or virtually anywhere in the state.

Supervision for LGPC-to-LCPC therapists in Maryland.

If you're a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) working toward full LCPC licensure, Maryland requires supervised clinical experience under a Board-approved supervisor — and it can be hard to find someone whose approach actually fits how you learn.

Dr. Ariel Lewis is approved by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists to provide clinical supervision for LGPC-level therapists working toward LCPC licensure. Sessions are available in person in Laurel, Maryland — convenient to Prince George's, Howard, and Anne Arundel counties — or virtually from anywhere in the state.

You don't need to share Dr. Lewis's clinical focus to work with her. Supervision is about your growth as a clinician — whatever population or specialty you serve, from child and family therapy to addiction, couples work, or anything else.

What we cover in supervision

  • Case formulation and treatment planning
  • Skill development and refinement
  • Self-awareness and personal growth
  • Ethical and legal considerations
  • Professional identity development
  • Self-care and burnout prevention

Dr. Lewis is approved by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists to supervise LGPC-level therapists, with over a decade of experience working with diverse populations. Meet in person in Laurel, MD, or virtually — whichever fits your schedule and how you learn best.

Dr. Lewis's own clinical passion is working with women of color on perinatal mental health, the transition into motherhood, work/life balance, trauma, anxiety, and depression — and with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, training the next generation of counselors has always been part of her professional plan. That said, as noted above, your own clinical focus doesn't need to match hers.

Common questions

Supervision & LCPC licensure in Maryland, explained.

A few of the questions LGPCs ask most often.

How many supervised hours do I need for LCPC licensure in Maryland?

Most master's-level counselors need three years and at least 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience, with at least 2,000 of those hours completed after your degree under a Board-approved supervisor. Up to 1,000 hours from your graduate practicum or internship can count toward that total.

How many hours of actual supervision (not client hours) are required?

Separately from your 3,000 clinical hours, Maryland requires 100 hours of face-to-face supervision within two years of your master's degree, with at least 50 of those as individual supervision and the rest allowed as group.

What's the difference between individual and group supervision?

Individual supervision is one-on-one time focused entirely on your caseload and development. Group supervision brings a few supervisees together to learn from each other's cases — it costs less per session and satisfies part of the Board's hour requirement, but can't fully replace individual time.

Do I need to specialize in the same population Dr. Lewis does?

No. Supervisees don't need to share Dr. Lewis's clinical focus or specialize in serving women of color to work with her. Supervision covers the clinical skills, ethics, and case consultation every LGPC needs, regardless of who your own clients are.

Can supervision be done virtually?

Yes. Sessions are available virtually from anywhere in Maryland, or in person in Laurel — whichever fits your schedule and the way you learn best.
