Good Faith Estimate

Your right to know what your care will cost before you start, under the federal No Surprises Act.

Good Faith Estimate details

If you don't have insurance, or you have insurance but choose not to use it for therapy, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your care is expected to cost. This is a federal requirement under the No Surprises Act, and it applies to every healthcare provider — not just Shades of Insight Therapy.

What a Good Faith Estimate covers

Your estimate will outline the expected cost of therapy sessions based on your anticipated frequency of care, using our current rates. It's meant to give you a realistic sense of what to expect over time — typically projected out up to 12 months.

It does not include costs from unexpected complications, added services, or changes to your treatment plan that couldn't reasonably be predicted in advance. If your needs change, your estimate can be updated to reflect that.

When you'll receive it

Federal timing rules require your estimate to be provided:

  • No later than 1 business day after scheduling, if your appointment is scheduled at least 3 business days out
  • No later than 3 business days after scheduling, if your appointment is scheduled at least 10 business days out
  • Within 3 business days, if you request an estimate without scheduling anything yet

If you reschedule, a new estimate is provided within those same timeframes.

If your bill is higher than expected

A Good Faith Estimate is exactly that — an estimate, not a guarantee. But if your actual bill ends up $400 or more above your estimate, you have the right to dispute it. You can:

  • Contact us directly to ask that the bill be updated to match the estimate, negotiate the difference, or discuss financial assistance
  • Start a formal dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, within 120 days of the date on your original bill

There is a $25 administrative fee to use the federal dispute process. If the review agrees with you, you'll pay the estimated price; if it agrees with us, you'll pay the higher billed amount.

This isn't a commitment

Requesting or receiving a Good Faith Estimate does not obligate you to book, continue, or pay for any services at Shades of Insight Therapy. It's information, not an agreement.

Requesting your estimate

If you're an uninsured or self-pay client and would like a Good Faith Estimate before your first session, contact us and we'll provide one in writing within the required timeframe.
